As always, a cozy, famil­iar race start.

In terms of results — over­all, as expected and accept­able. Con­sid­er­ing the odd train­ing rhythm, the set­back with shin splints, and work stress, the season opener turned out just as it log­i­cally should.

I had enough strength for about 15 kilo­me­ters to hold a steady 4:06–4:09 pace — roughly an hour’s worth of run­ning. Over the last 6 km I faded slightly, fin­ish­ing in 1:27:38 — about two min­utes slower than the same race last year.

By the end of the season, I should be aiming to cut four min­utes from this time.
